Beagles are one of the most popular dog breeds in America and are adored for their curious, warm personalities. Beagle puppies especially turn heads with their cute looks, too!

These dogs have nosed their way into the cultural zeitgeist, appearing as a fighter pilot named Snoopy in the Peanuts comic strips and in countless books and films. Who else bawled like a baby while reading Shiloh?

Are you thinking about bringing one of these darling scenthound pups into your home? Here are a few things to expect when adopting a Beagle puppy.

1. They’re The Type Of Pup Who Likes To Roam Around

The Beagle is an ancient breed. They’ve been around for over 1,000 years as fox hunting companions to humans. Some even say the beginning of the Beagle breed goes back to 5th century Greece!

Because of this long tradition of scent-tracking and hunting, your Beagle puppy will be incredibly curious with their surroundings. Nothing is off limits to a Beagle’s curiosity, including something on the other side of your fence.

Beagles are known for literally digging around to find whatever it is that is driving their noses nuts. Play some scent-based games to keep them occupied and not digging around in your dirty laundry.

2. Grown Beagles Used To Be Smaller Than Your Beagle Puppy

Your Beagle puppy will be nothing short of adorable. With their floppy ears, beautiful coloring, and excitable white-tipped tail, your pup will eventually grow to a healthy 20 to 25 pounds.

When the breed was first around, grown Beagles were so small they could literally fit in your pocket, measuring in at a height of eight to nine inches. Over time, these pocket Beagles were bred with larger hunting dogs, making the adorable — and much more durable — Beagle we know today.

3. ‘Beagle’ Roughly Translates To ‘Loudmouth’

The word “Beagle” may come from the Middle French word “beegueule,” which means “gaping throat, noisy person, whiner.” That’s an accurate name to give these mouthy pups.

Your Beagle puppy may whine, howl, and yip any chance they get. While this is adorable when they are eight to ten weeks old, it’s a habit that will stick unless you proactively train them.

4. Your Puppy Could Join The Ranks Of Many Famous Beagles

There are plenty of world-famous Beagles out there, and your puppy could be the next star to join them! Well, at least if you follow Barry Manilow’s lead.

The singer famously adopted a Beagle that he named Bagel back in the ’70s. He loved that Beagle so much that he put him on the back cover of his 1975 album Tryin’ To Get The Feeling.

You may not be a famous ’70s soft rock star with a Vegas show, but you can start your Beagle puppy their own Instagram and make them a star. Your pooch would join the ranks of other famous Beagles, such as Snoopy, President Johnson’s Beagles, Garfield’s sidekick Odie, and Gromit of Wallace and Gromit.

5. Your Beagle Puppy Will Keep You In Shape

Beagles are highly active, curious pups. Even in their early age, they’re ready to take on the world all on their own.

Your pup will probably want to hike the most arduous paths, jump off the muddiest piers into the lake, and play whenever they have the chance.

Because of their need for a lot of exercise, many Beagle pups can get a little pudgy if they are left to sit at home all day. Not only that, but Beagles can become destructive if left home alone too long — they get bored! If you’re debating whether or not to bring a Beagle puppy into your life, consider how active your lifestyle is.

Also, please remember that you can find any breed of dog you are looking for at your local shelter or with breed-specific rescue groups. The Beagle Freedom Project has many wonderful Beagles who would love to meet you! You can also check out DogTime’s adoption page that lets you search for adoptable dogs by breed and zip code.

Pit bull puppies sure are cute, as you can tell from the pictures above! When someone refers to a “Pit Bull puppy,” you can probably picture a certain kind of dog in your head, but you might be interested to know that there is no such breed as “Pit Bull.”

The term Pit Bull actually refers to a few different breeds, including the American Staffordshire Terrier, the American Bully, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, though the one people think of most when they hear of a Pit Bull is the American Pit Bull Terrier, and that’s the breed we’re going to talk about.

October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month, but it’s always important to spread facts about these misunderstood dogs.

And if you are interested in bringing home a Pittie puppy, remember to adopt! Don’t shop! You can find them in shelters, breed specific rescues, or on DogTime’s adoption page that lets you search for adoptable dogs by breed in your area.

Do you think an American Pit Bull Terrier puppy is right for you? Here’s what you should know Pit Bull puppies.

1. They Are Loving, Family Dogs

There’s a reason Pit Bulls are referred to as “nanny dogs.” That’s because they are so loving and gentle around children.

A Pit Bull puppy who’s well socialized will absolutely love the whole family, including kids.

They are devoted and loyal, and while they’re usually trusting of strangers and make poor guard dogs, they will defend their families if they sense danger.

2. They Need Lots Of Play And Strong Toys

Pit Bull puppies love to play, and they love to chew. This breed is not for people who can’t spend a lot of time with their dogs, as they have a lot of energy and can get destructive if they aren’t physically and mentally stimulated.

Chew toys are a must, and they should be strong chew toys, as Pit Bull puppies have strong jaws.

Find some durable toys that won’t fall apart and get swallowed.

3. They Are Not Like The Original Bull-Baiting Dogs

Bull-baiting was a cruel sport that involved putting dogs in fighting rings with bulls, and it was outlawed in 1835. The Pit Bull was bred for this purpose.

However, the aggressive tendencies of the breed have since been almost completely bred out in modern times. Even the Pit Bulls of old were extremely reluctant to bite humans, as their owners wanted dogs who wouldn’t bite when they reached their hands into the ring to drag the dogs away.

Now, Pit Bull puppies are not aggressive unless they are taught to be, especially not towards humans.

4. They Need Training And Socialization

Pit Bull puppies tend to be stubborn and bossy, but they are very smart and highly trainable. Their brains soak up tricks like a sponge, but they need discipline and consistency.

They should also meet plenty of other dogs early in life to socialize and prevent aggression.

5. They Still Face Unfair Discrimination

Pit Bulls are sweet and loving dogs when properly trained, but they are still often banned by Breed Specific Legislation and portrayed as vicious in the media. Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, and other breeds have all been similarly discriminated against at one time or another.

Studies have shown that Pit Bulls in general have more pleasant temperaments than several other breeds, but some cruel people use them in dog fighting rings, giving them a worse reputation.

If you plan on getting a Pit Bull puppy, make sure your area doesn’t have Breed Specific Legislation, or the authorities can seize your puppy. If such laws exist in your area, call your representatives and let them know that you’d like these laws changed.

The German Shepherd Dog is the second most popular breed in the United States, and it is easy to see why. These pups are incredibly intelligent and capable canines who are ready to work.

Fortunately, if you have been eyeing a German Shepherd pup, they’re also ready to play, snuggle, and make you laugh uncontrollably at their unintentionally goofy demeanor.

Remember, you can get any kind of dog, including a GSD, from shelters and rescues, so adopt! Don’t shop!

If you’re thinking about adopting a German Shepherd puppy, here are five things you should know going in.

1. They Can Be Protective Of Their Families

The German Shepherd is described as a breed that has an “eagerness to have a purpose.” This is why they make such amazing working dogs and take on jobs such as police work, disability assistance, search and rescue, and military roles.

Part of your German Shepherd puppy’s purpose will be to please you and and make sure you’re safe. They tend to be “one family” pets, meaning they can be suspicious of strangers. They’ll want to please you 24/7!

2. They Will Help You Redecorate Your Floors

Do you have a hardwood floor? That will change into a nice carpet with the German Shepherd’s notorious shedding coat.

Although absolutely gorgeous, Shepherds are shedders to the max. Prepare for a snow-globe of hair to poof off your pup any time you give them a big snuggle, which will be more often than not.

3. Playing Around Is No Game

The German Shepherd is a very active breed and needs lots of physical stimulation and playtime.

When you first get your puppy, playing may consist of nipping due to their herding background. When your GSD is full grown, they may love to wrestle around and forget how big they are.

If you’re an active person with thick skin, a German Shepherd puppy may be right for you.

4. But They’re Still Softies

Despite their intimidating looks, German Shepherds can be total softies, especially if socialized early on.

These pups are always up for snuggling with others, including kids and other pets.

5. Softies Who Are Also Busy Bodies

If you want a German Shepherd puppy in your life, you have to really want your dog to be a part of every little bit of your daily routine.

Morning showers? Your pup will want to sit right outside to make sure you rinse off the soap. Your bed? That’s for both of you, right?

Highly intelligent and curious, Shepherds want to know what is going on all of the time. German Shepherds will attach at the hip and make the right person the happiest dog parent on the planet.

Remember, you can find just about any breed of dog you are looking for at a shelter or rescue. Check our adoption page that lets you search by breed and location or a German Shepherd Rescue in your area.

Aren’t Shiba Inu puppies adorable? You’ve probably spotted these dogs’ cute looks before without even realizing it. In fact, they have a face you’ve seen a million times on your Facebook feed: the doge face.

“Such Wow.” “Many cool.” “Much awesome.” The Internet jargon is slapped onto a photo of a fox-like dog in multicolored Comic Sans font. That fox-like dog is the intelligent — and now hilarious — Shiba Inu.

If you feel like you’re needing “much doge” in your life, maybe a Shiba Inu puppy is right for you! Of course, you can find just about any kind of dog through a shelter or rescue, so remember to adopt! Don’t shop!

Here are some things you should know about the internet-famous pups before diving into adoption or rescue research.

1. They Can Be Challenging To Train

It’s important to start with the cold, hard truth: Shiba Inus are big dogs in a compact dog body.

Originally bred for hunting, Shiba Inus are clever, agile, and like to get what they want. This includes birds that are hanging out on your backyard fence or the small squirrel across the street.

With a Shiba Inu, even a puppy, you will have to be consistent with your training and always stay one step ahead.

2. They’re Courageous And Bold

Alert. Confident. Courageous. While a Shiba Inu puppy may test your patience with aforementioned training, you will earn a vigilant watchdog in exchange.

Shiba Inu puppies also tend to form very strong bonds with their handlers — that’s you! — so the training is extra rewarding.

3. But They Cry Like Babies

Have you ever heard a Shiba Inu puppy in distress? Shiba Inus have the distinct characteristic of screaming in an almost human-like way when they’re stressed out.

Things like bath time or getting their nails trimmed could have your Shiba Inu turning into a doggy diva.

4. They’re The Cleanest Puppies You’ll Ever Meet

Fortunately, the aforementioned grooming scenario won’t have to happen often. Shiba Inus are notoriously clean dogs who don’t need much grooming.

They’re known for licking their paws and grooming themselves much like a cat. Shiba Inus will avoid post-storm puddles and muddy areas — like the divas they are — and they have a self-cleaning coat that repels dirt.

5. Your Pup Is Part Of An Ancient Breed

The Shiba Inu is the smallest of the six original Japanese dogs — the Akita Inu, Kishu Inu, Shikoku Inu, Hokkaido, and Kai Ken — and their lineage goes WAY back.

Shibas are actually the breed most similar to wolves, which suggests that they’re one of the oldest domesticated dog breeds.

While a Shiba Inu can be a challenge to a novice dog parent, the rewards of raising a dog like this far exceed the stresses. They are intensely loyal, smart, and clean pups worth welcoming into your home.

To put it into doge: “Much work. Wow such love.”

Dachshunds, also known as Wiener Dogs and Doxies, never seem to slow down just because of their short stature. Even though Dachshund puppies are small and adorable–as you can see in the pictures above–they have enough heart and spirit to match any of the big dogs.

Intensely loyal, hyper vigilant, and spunky, these vertically-challenged pups are one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States for a reason.

Feel like this long, little dog is right for you? Read up on some Dachshund puppy facts before you adopt and bring home your new best friend!

1. They Were Originally Bred As Badger Hunters

Have you ever wondered why a Dachshund puppy has such a funny, adorable shape?

The breed originated in Germany, where they were used to hunt weasels, badgers, and small game. Their tiny, long bodies were able to get into tight badger nests in the ground.

While you may not be getting a Dachshund puppy to hunt, this is important to keep in mind. Dachshund puppies are scrappy and can wiggle and squirm their way in–and out–of everything.

If you are getting a Dachshund puppy, make sure your yard perimeter is dig and wiggle-proof.

2. They’re Hyper Vigilant

Breeds like Pit Bulls and German Shepherds often get the bad rap for having aggressive personalities. It may surprise you that Dachshunds, in fact, are ranked as the most aggressive of all breeds by journal Applied Animal Behavior Science.

By no means does this guarantee that a Dachshund puppy is going to come into your house and cause havoc. In fact, Dachshunds are incredibly loyal, and if they seem to act aggressively, it will most likely be because they’re warning you of intruders.

As always, be sure to socialize your Dachshund puppy early to avoid aggression towards strangers on the street during walks and human visits.

3. Two Are Better Than One

Dachshund puppies seem to be keenly aware of other pups who are like them and get along very well together.

Because of their small size, it almost makes sense to simply get two siblings and start their lives with you together! Dachshund puppies can get along with other family pets, too, as long as they are introduced in a calm environment.

They can get a bit jealous and possessive with food and people, so be sure to train away any unwanted behaviors ASAP.

4. They Can Be Stubborn

Maybe it’s a bit of a Napoleon complex, but Dachshund puppies tend to think they’re in the right, even when they’re yanking at their leash to bark at another dog across the street.

Training your Dachshund puppy with positive reinforcement will work much better than other forms of discipline.

Keep tiny treats on hand for training to make them feel like it was actually their idea to sit and wait for you to serve their food instead of yapping at you to get it down faster.

5. They Attach At The Hip

Dachshund puppies are incredibly loyal creatures. They love to be on your lap, under your feet while you are doing the dishes, and snuggling next to you under the covers at night.

If you love the idea of a long, short pup following you around 24/7, a Dachshund can be great for you and your family.

If having a shadow is not appealing to you, Dachshunds can be trained–with positive reinforcement–to give you a little space when you need it.

Remember, you can find just about any breed of dog you are looking for at a shelter or rescue. Look on Facebook for a Dachshund Rescue groups in your area, or check out DogTime’s adoption page that lets you search for adoptable dogs by breed and zip code!

Some of us are born morning people. Others, not so much. And a select few, such as new puppy parents, have the morning thrust upon them whether they like it or not.

Puppies sure are adorable, but they also come with some needs and wants that cause their human moms and dads to miss out on other things–like sleep.

Here are five things that only puppy parents understand about trying to get ready in the morning with a brand new puppy.

1. A Puppy’s Need To Pee Takes Priority Over Yours

Maybe before having a puppy, the first thing you did was mosey into your bathroom, plop down on the toilet, and take a leisurely couple of minutes to do your business.

Once you have a puppy, that morning routine is a thing of the past.

The first creature who gets bathroom privileges is your puppy, and they will make sure of that, whether it’s outside in your backyard or inside on your new rug.

2. The Snooze Button Is A Thing Of The Past

Prior to having a puppy, it was easy to hit the snooze once or twice–or a few more times–and take a few extra luxurious minutes in between dream and awake states before the reality of the day hit you.

Puppies have really good hearing–almost supernatural–and can sense the moment you open your eyelids. That’s the signal to start jumping around and begging to be let out, right?

3. A Morning Walk Becomes A Fabulous Way To Start The Day

To non-puppy owners, the idea of taking a twenty minute walk around the block to make sure your pup has eliminated everything may seem like a burden.

While it can definitely be a lifestyle shift at first, it quickly becomes a great part of your morning routine.

Knocking out a little bit of cardio and housebreaking your pup at the same time? It’s a win-win.

4. Your Pup Will Help Pick Out Your Wardrobe

A puppy might just want to help pick what shoes you should wear and what shoes should exit your wardrobe and become their new chew toys, instead.

Some days, you give in and let them chew up the old sneaker. Other days, it’s worth trading them your shoe for a toy and positively reinforcing the desired behavior of not chewing up your expensive pumps.

5. Even If You’re Not A Morning Person, You’ll Soon Become One

Puppies make people smile. It’s a fact.

Puppy parents know that even if they’re being dragged out of bed at four in the morning, it will secretly be worth it just to see that adorable face so full of energy and excitement at the crack of dawn.

Morning Puppy Syndrome is contagious, and before puppy parents know it, they’re morning people, too.

If there’s anything that can prove there’s at least an ounce of purity and good in this world, it’s a Golden Retriever puppy. Maybe you’ve checked out the Golden Retriever puppies in the pictures above and are already feeling the warm fuzzies in your heart.

Golden Retrievers are somehow both majestic and completely silly; they’re simultaneously big ol’ goofballs and compassionate listeners.

If you’ve decided that a lil’ Golden Retriever puppy is right for your family–which, let’s face it, there are few reasons as to why they wouldn’t be right for you–here are some things to expect once you adopt that fluffy ball of energy and slobbery kisses.

1. They’re Like A Natural Anti-Depressant

Golden Retriever puppy eyes have some sort of magic about them. One look and an instant calm will probably wash over you; stress simply melts away.

Why, you ask? Golden Retrievers are notoriously loyal and obedient and form very strong bonds with their human “pack.” As a loyal part of your pack, your Golden pup will be beaming nothin’ but contagious joy from their soulful and loving eyes.

It’s no wonder so many Golden pups grow up to be such amazing therapy dogs.

2. They Make Your Instagram Game SO STRONG

You’re probably a good looking person, but there’s no question that a photo of your Golden Retriever pup in a pair of old glasses will get more likes than all of your selfies combined.

They can look silly with their big goofy grins. Or they can look stoic and wise beyond their years with their striking, deep brown eyes.

As a puppy, your Golden will go from an adorable fluffball to a puppy tween who has limbs and paws that don’t seem to match the rest of their torso. A Golden Retriever puppy’s front legs may even look shorter than their hind legs from age five months to a year, which will only add to the “Awwww!” sensation every photo will elicit.

If you’re planning on getting a Golden pup in the near future, consider upgrading your phone storage for the copious amounts of photos you will be taking. #CutenessOverload

3. Everything They Do Is Adorable

Just watching your pup go from an adorable average of ten pounds right when you get them at eight weeks old to a sizable 70 pounds at the year mark is cuter than anything you can imagine.

Except for going to the bathroom outside–that’s adorable. So is sitting when they’re told. Or falling asleep in your lap.

Maybe “accidentally” taking all of the toilet paper off the roll is the cutest. Or busting your pup discreetly chewing on your brand new pair of sneakers in their new closet lair is the cutest. THERE ARE TOO MANY CUTE THINGS.

Literally everything will be adorable and glee-inducing if done by a Golden Retriever pup–even the behaviors that, by all logic, should annoy you to no end.

4. They Tend To Get Along With Everyone

Goldens have great dispositions and get along with just about everybody. This is a good thing because a puppy this adorable is definitely going to be a popular one.

Golden Retriever puppies make friends of kids, adults, and other animals while keeping their trademark smiles on their faces.

They are so friendly, in fact, that they may not be the best bet when looking for guard dogs; a Golden will usually greet any stranger, including during a break-in, with a welcoming smile on their face.

5. But They Will Love You Best

(Picture Credit: Carolyn Ann Ryan/Getty Images)

Again, the loyalty of a Golden Retriever pup cannot be stressed enough; it is strong.

Golden Retriever puppies are some of the most popular dogs in the United States, and it’s easy to see why. At the end of the day, your athletic, big-pawed, adventurous, silly, and loving Golden pup will only have eyes for you.

Remember, you can find just about any breed of dog you are looking for at a shelter or rescue. You can even check DogTime’s adoption page to search for shelter dogs of any breed in your area.

Few things can put a damper on the joy of bringing a new puppy into your home than unwanted accidents. If you are looking for ways to housetrain your puppy, you are not alone.

There are lots of ways to potty train your new puppy, and the good news is your puppy definitely wants to learn! Before you let your pooch get full run of the house, make sure to teach them the house rules and avoid accidents.

Training a puppy to do tricks, to not chew up your things, and not to have accidents isn’t as difficult as it may feel. Yes, it can be a daunting task, but you can do it!

Here are all the things you need to think about as you start housetraining your new puppy.

1. Confinement May Seem Like A Punishment, But It Will Help

(Picture Credit: Laura Fay/iStock/Getty Images Plus)

For many, the thought of restricting a brand new puppy to a certain area of the house or a crate may feel awful. Hearing your pup cry out can definitely put your willpower to the test, but keeping your dog in a small enough area will quickly teach them not to relieve themselves inside.

Confinement training is effective for a multitude of reasons. Your puppy will not want to relieve themselves in a small space they can’t leave.

Crate or confinement training also helps keep your puppy safe. For example, if you are not home and let your puppy get free reign of the house, they could get into something toxic or get stuck somewhere.

Eventually, with proper training, your pup will come to consider that space as their own, personal territory. It will be a safe place for them to retreat to when they feel overwhelmed or just want some peace and quiet.

You may find them taking a nap there by choice before long, and they may even prefer it to your human furniture when looking for a resting spot.

2. As Soon As You Let Your Pup Out Of Confinement, Take Them Outside

When you first start crate or confinement training your puppy, you may want to play with them as soon as you let them out. Before introducing your puppy to their new favorite toy, take them outside and have them relieve themselves.

Use a command word, like “potty,” “outside,” or whatever works for you to signal to your puppy that it’s time to go out and relieve themselves. Even if you have a gated backyard, you should start with your puppy on a leash so they know it is time to eliminate and not to play.

If you’re home with your puppy throughout the day, you should still keep them in either a doggy playpen or a crate unless you are able to keep all of your attention on them. Let your puppy out every one to two hours to make sure they aren’t sitting in their confined space with a full bladder or bowels.

3. Reward Them Generously

Keep some small treats on you whenever you let your puppy outside to go to the bathroom.

Once they successfully eliminate, be sure to heavily praise and reward them. Your puppy will quickly associate the positive reinforcement they get with relieving themselves outside, and they’ll get the idea that they’re supposed to go potty there.

4. Avoid Yelling At Them If You Find An Accident

(Picture Credit: Alex Sokolov/iStock/Getty Images Plus)

If you leave your puppy in their crate and you return home to a soiled situation, resist the urge to shove your pup’s nose in it or yell at them.

Your puppy will not associate the punishment with the act of soiling, as you did not catch them in the act. Yelling at your puppy could actually lead to the opposite effect of housetraining–they could start submissive urination to prove to you that they aren’t a threat.

They could also develop neurotic behavior, like hiding or even eating their poop to avoid punishment.

5. You Can Use Turf To Train Your Puppy Indoors

(Picture Credit: Dieter Meyrl/iStock/Getty Images Plus)

If you live in a five-story walk-up or you get a puppy when it is freezing cold outside, it may be difficult to let your puppy out every couple hours. This doesn’t mean you can’t still successfully train your puppy how to relieve themselves outside.

Set up a space–be it in a mudroom, in the corner of their playpen, or near the back door–that you can designate for your puppy to use the restroom. There are pee pads made of turf that can help your puppy transition from relieving themselves inside to doing so outside.

6. Putting Your Puppy On A Sleep Schedule Can Help, Too

Now, you won’t be able to magically dictate when your puppy falls asleep and wakes up, but in order to make sure your puppy is able to grow into a dog who can relieve themselves on your schedule, you’re going to want to set up a routine for your pup.

For example, puppies usually need to urinate within half a minute or so of waking up. If you want to get some things done in the morning before walking your pup, perhaps they should sleep in their confined space–not in your room–so they don’t wake up as soon as you do.

Conversely, many people find that walking their puppies first thing in the morning helps keep them from hitting the snooze button half a dozen times, so you may want your pup to sleep in the same room as you.

It may take some trial and error, but you and your pup will find a groove in terms of relieving themselves in the proper manner. By taking your puppy out at the same times throughout the day–moreso at first, and then slowly weening them to every four to six hours instead of every hour–they will know when they can expect to go outside and relieve themselves.

Dogs thrive on structure, and this will help stabilize your relationship with your puppy as well.

Rottweiler puppies sure are cute, as you already know if you’ve seen the pictures above. Unfortunately, Rottweilers, like Pit Bulls, have an unfair reputation that precedes them.

Like any breed, Rottweilers can be aggressive and territorial if not properly trained or socialized. Luckily for you, aggression is not a trait this breed is known to have. They are actually known as loving, loyal goofballs who are eager to please their families.

If you’re thinking about bringing a Rottweiler puppy into your life, here are a few things you should know and consider ahead of time.

1. They Are Extremely Protective

This protectiveness is where Rottweilers get their bad reputation of being overly-aggressive.

Despite this innate need to protect, Rottweilers can be open to meeting new people and pups if properly socialized. If you want a little Rottweiler puppy, be sure to set up lots of play dates with both people and animals.

I’m sure they won’t mind the extra snuggles and “Awwwws!” that they get on said play dates.

2. They Love Physical And Mental Exercise

While your Rottweiler puppy may only be around 15 pounds at eight weeks, they’re going to grow into a smart, strong, and big dog.

Rottweiler pups need loads of physical stimulation. This breed loves to wrestle and get plenty of fetch in.

Rottweiler puppies also enjoy obedience training. They are the thought to be one of the world’s smartest breeds, after all!

If you consider yourself active, a Rottweiler pup may be right for you.

3. They Can Be A Bit Gassy

Burps, drools, and a bit of gas from the rear end may not be something every Rottweiler pup experiences, but it is common for the breed.

We think all of the cuddles, exercise, and slobbery kisses your Rottweiler puppy will give you make up for their occasional ability to clear the room.

4. They Sometimes Forget How Big They Are

Sometimes they act like little pups when they’re leaning on you. Full grown, your Rottweiler puppy will be anywhere between 100 to 130 pounds.

They have the tendency to lean on people because they were bred to help herd cattle. By nudging you, they are trying to lead you to the treats, just like they would lead a cow to a pen.

Rottweilers can also think they’re lap dogs and have no issue making your stomach their pillow.

5. Despite Tough Looks, They’ll Need To Spend Time Beautifying

And by “they,” we mean “you.”

Despite their short coat, Rottweilers can make an apartment with hard wood floors look like a shag carpet in a matter of days.

Daily brushing and weekly baths will help cut down on the amount of fur that ends up everywhere your Rottweiler pup sits.

Remember, you can find just about any breed of dog you are looking for at a shelter or rescue. Check out DogTime’s adoption page that lets you search for adoptable dogs by breed in your area.
